Mason Starts Solids

We started Mason on solid food on Saturday.  He was five and a half months. I had planned to wait until closer to six months to start feeding him from a spoon, but Mason had another agenda.  With him being as big as he is (over 20lbs), exclusively breastfeeding 5-6x just wasn’t cutting it anymore.  He was sleeping 11-12 hrs straight, but then last week started to wake after about 8hrs, and then nursed like he was starving.  So, I knew it was time. Here he is, taking his first spoonfuls.

Disclosure: Please excuse my appearance. It looks as if I was having a severe anti-glamorous day. I had no idea Dan would be taping me without make-up and sloppy hair.

Now that he has started on solids, he’s back to sleeping 11-12hrs.  Wohoo!  He was just a hungry booger.  It’s been almost a week since he started, and even though he hates it in the video, he LOVES it now.  Every time the spoon gets near, he opens his mouth like a little bird. It’s so cute! We’re still just doing rice cereal and he’s taking about 2 tablespoons with breast milk, once a day.  I haven’t started with the purees yet, but I plan to make all my own baby food like I did with Parker.  It’s an exciting milestone to see what foods he’ll like!

Say Goodbye to my little Mullet

I know mullets are making a comeback, but this was one mullet that needed to go.  Parker was in need of his very first haircut so we decided to take him to Pigtails and Crew Cuts for a little trim.

First, we waited and Daddy read me a story.

Oh, fun! Can I get my hair cut in here?

Do you see this mullet thing I got going on here?  Yeah, my thoughts exactly!

Mommy is talking to the lady about the best way to trim my hair.

This is fun!

Lord, please don’t let her cut off my ear.  Thanks!

Trim, trim, and a snip, snip!

It’s not so bad!

Look, my mullet is gone!

See how handsome I look?

Auuuww Yeeeeeah!!

First Solids

Over the past week or so I’ve begun to make my own baby food.  I’ve been steaming and pureeing apples, pears, broccoli, sweet potatoes and squash and placed them in ice trays to freeze.  Parker hasn’t tried any of that yet, but we did give him a little soupy mixture of brown rice cereal and breast milk for the very first time today.  Let the food exploration begin!  I’m excited to see what new foods he’ll enjoy and what new faces he’ll make during this new adventure.

Five Month Outtakes

On the 25th of every month we capture Parker’s growth on this page.  Today, he discovered Mr. Owl.

Hi Mr. Owl. Have you been here for a while?

Would you like to play?

Get over here buddy!

See, my toes don't smell that bad...

What keeps flashing? Why is mommy calling me?

Is this the expression you're looking for?

I'm over this Mom!

Snowy Day and Picnic Play

It’s only in Atlanta that you’ll have one weekend with such snowy weather, that it provides at least 2″ across the city, and the very next weekend have it be warm enough to go to the park and have a picnic.  We decided to take advantage of both weekends by treading in the snow, and soaking in some sunshine.  God has blessed us with two beautiful weekends!  So, here’s to Parker’s first snow, and first picnic in the park!
